Best new Toys for Puppies

Looking for something exiting to treat your puppy with? Perhaps a new design or technology your pet might enjoy? Let us present you with three options of the newest toys (2022/2023), that have made it on our favorite puppy toy list. The toys have been tested over a period of two weeks and reviewed by various other puppy owners.

  Snuffle Mat

This is a kind of puzzle toy or puzzle feeder. It lookes like a rug put together from scraps and pieces of fabrics. You can disperse small treats or kibble in it and your pup´s job is to find them. Most puppies truely love this game and it keeps them busy for a while as they forage for their food. The rubber mat makes it stick to the ground well.

If you think of getting a snuffle mat for your pup make sure to get one that´s cleverly devised with a lot of fabric, preferrebly longer pieces, so your pet really has to search for its treats. It should do all the "looking" with its nose, sniffing the food, not seeing it because it´s too simple and plain.

Average cost: $15 - $35

Interactive Ball / Smart Ball (electronic)

This rubber shell ball is powered by a battery and rolls and bounces around on its own. Most dogs love to chase them. It offers pet owners to engage their puppies in play while they themselves are busy. However, as it is an electronic toy and very dynamic, you should not leave your pup unsupervised during playtime. Also: The smart ball does not replace your playtime with your pup. Your pet will still need to spend time with you and enjoy your attention. So this toy can work perfectly well as an extra to other toys.

Most interactive balls have LED lights, for extra stimulation, and they come in different sizes. Some also have different modes to suit the temperament of your pet (like "gentle", "passive" and "normal"). The battery can last for up to 4 hours, depending on the product, and can be charged through a cord. The interactive ball works on carpets that are not too thick, but is at its best on hard floors. Choose one made of natural or non-toxic rubber that is also washable.

Average cost: $40 - $50

Brands/ manufacturers include Atuban, Cheerble and Petgeek

  Chew & Treat Toy

Is your pup an obsessive chewer or gulps down its food way too fast? Than a thick and durable chew toy might be the best option for you. The game is easy: fill it with treats or kibble and offer it to your pup. It will chase it when thrown and try to get the food out. With some designs it can take several hours for your pet to be done playing with it. So it really keeps them busy. Some puppies  will even continue chewing on the toy long after the treats have been consumed. Our tests have proven the toy to be durable, withstanding all the chewing, but how long it will actually last if used over a long period of time by an excessive chewer, is hard to say. However, they are rather cheap, so it might be worth it in any case. Make sure it´s made of natural or non-toxic rubber that you can rinse (some are also fit to be washed in the dishwasher).

Average cost: $8 - $15

Our advice for all of those puppy toys is not to choose the cheapest option (usually a no-name Chinese copy) but instead to go with a quality product from a known manufacturer. With these you can be sure that the materials used are suitable for puppies and that the toys last long. Also: consider the size of the toy when buying as you don´t want to risk any choking hazard if the ball is too small for your pup and you don´t want a toy too big for your pet to play with.
